IT'S NOT LATE

In this lab we studied different properties of minerals such as Luster, Streak, Hardness, and Cleavage.

1) what did you enjoy the most about this project and why?
I liked it when we were filming our video, and testing the minerals. The reason being was because of how we were testing and how it was interesting to see what would be the result of each property.

2) what was the most challenging for you during this project and why?
The most challenging part was doing the writing part especially the background with limited time left, the reason why because i had to do research while this far i had only used my brain to answer the questions.

3)  What new skills did you learn  from doing this project?
I learned how to test different properties of mineral and how to create a video.

4) Is there anything that you could have done to improve any of your work? Explain.
well i did waist a lot of time thinking that i was done when i had to do the whole background which was a big part of the writing. Other than that maybe create a more organized video when i was filmed.

Venus

planet order:2            Distance from the sun: 108.2 million km                      Mass: 0.82
Diameter: 12.104 km    Rotation: 243 days        Revolution: 224.7 days   # of moons: none
 and it is Terrestrial
A little about the planet:
Its a burning hot planet with high temperatures, the rain on the planet is always acid. It is so hot the rain most likely evaporates before it even touches the ground. It also has a much stronger gravity force than earth, people would get crushed if they were to go on venus.

Fun facts: 1) Named after the roman goddess of war.
2) A day on venus is longer than a year.

Saturn

Saturn

Planet Saturn is the 6th from the sun, its distance from the sun is 1,426,7 km. Its mass is 5.6846 kg and has a diameter of 120.536 km.  It rotates around itself in 10 hours and 14 minutes, and its revolution takes 29.5 years to complete. It has 60 moons; the biggest is called Titan and is terrestrial.
The planet itself is mostly made of gas and has a rocky core, there are also various traces of ice. Its rings are also very bright, and it is very cold there, about 220 because it is far from the sun. Saturn has seasons just like on earth because its axis is tilted.
A few fun facts are that it has the biggest rings of all the planets, and that those rings are extremely thin. It is also the fastest planet to rotate around itself, it does a full rotation in only 10 hours and 14 minutes.  You can also not stand on Saturn because it is mostly made of clouds you would most likely float of swim. Scientists believe there might be life on one of Saturn’s moons because there is water.

Hurricane Irene Project

Critical Thinking

1)   What time of the year do hurricanes occur?  Why do they happen during this time?

Hurricanes most likely happen during the summer because that is the time the water is warm and allows the hurricane to grow bigger and stronger.
2)   How can the timing of the tides (high or low) effect the devastation of a hurricane?

Well if the tide increases the water level will allow the hurricane to grow bigger because more water will evaporate, also the wind of the hurricane will easily increase the power and height of the waves. Over all the hurricane will be much more powerfull.
3)   If an area is fully saturated, will a hurricane have more or less impact on an area?

The hurricane will have a bigger impact on the area because normally the hurricane would start losing power when reaching land but the area is saturated, the water will still evaporate and the hurricane will not lose any power it might actually gain some.
4)   How does ground water saturation affects rivers and streams?

It affects rivers and streams because if it rains or a hurricane occur the river will over flow. The water will have nowhere to go, that’s why it is usually not a good idea to build your house next to a river. This will all happen because the rain will increase the water level and the river will simply over flow.

 Reflection
1) What is something that u liked about this mini-project?

I really liked the fact that I learned about not only hurricanes but tides, groundwater, water cycle and flooding. We also practiced every one of them during do now’s, and finally had a presentation with one person form one of the topics which also helped me learn a lot more.
2) What was difficult for you in this project?

The hardest thing for me was to write those like paragraph about all the topics, because I am very bad at taking notes so when it was time to writ the paragraphs I did not have much written.
3) What would you change about your work in this project?

I really don’t know, I found this project very interesting and helpful, one suggestions would be to maybe have a little more time to learn bout the other topics.
4) How did this project help you learn about hurricane Irene?

This project helped me learn how hurricanes are formed and how devastating they can be. I now know why hurricane Irene happened, and also why it was not so powerful here in New York.
